Matthew Lynch

Dr Matthew Lynch graduated as a medical doctor from the University of New South Wales, Randwick, Sydney in 1991.

After completing psychiatry training at St Vincents Hospital in Sydney he qualified as a child psychiatrist in 2002 on a fellowship.

Matthew has worked since 2001 as a consultant Child Psychiatrist in the NSW public health system (including in Liverpool/Fairfield, Coffs Harbour, Grafton and Wagga Wagga). His specialist skills include working with young people aged 5 - 18,  with the broad spectrum of mental health problems (including anxiety, depression, complex PTSD ). As a result of this work, he has extensive experience in working with: 

  • young people and their families, as well as educating and collaborating with their schools, case-managers and other counsellors
  • rural clients
  • culturally and linguistically diverse and Indigenous clients 
Matthew has a special interest in young people with gender issues, as Transgender young people need qualified assessment, family support and advocacy. Matthew is a member of a transgender mental health professionals interest group which offers supervision and multidisciplinary guidance plus expertise. He is also a member of ANZPATH. As part of an advocacy role Matthew has given educational talks to various health and educational groups.
